

Eldon L. “Papa-San” Estes, 81, of Edwardsville, KS passed away Friday, December 2 at Golden Living Care Center, Kaw River, in Edwardsville, KS. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 N. 94th St., Kansas City, Kansas. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Monday, December 5 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to White Church Christian Church.
Eldon was born October 18, 1930 in Bolckow, Missouri to Louis and Edyth Leah Estes. He had lived in the Kansas City area since 1962. Eldon was an Army Veteran, serving in Korea where he earned a Good Conduct Medal and two Bronze Stars. He was a member of White Church Christian Church where he was in the choir and men’s club. Eldon volunteered for many organizations: he coached baseball, football & basketball; he was the coach for 3 & 2 and WyCo baseball, volunteer coach for Coronado Junior High School, as well as a Boy Scout leader and 4-H leader. He also was a member of the Lion’s Club. “Papa-San” loved woodworking, camping, fishing, baseball, football, basketball and square dancing.
Eldon was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Edyth Estes, three brothers: Dean, Gerald and Vaughn Estes; and two sisters: Carol Ann McMurray and Mona Muckey.
He is survived by two brothers, Donald and Jim Estes, his wife JoAnn Estes of Edwardsville, KS, six children: Cynthia Cook and husband Gary; David Estes and wife Lori of Raymore, MO; Karen Edrington of Edwardsville, KS; Brenda Ison and husband Kenney of Raymore, MO; Trace Estes of Edwardsville, KS; and Phillip Estes of Kansas City, Missouri. He also leaves ten grandchildren: Erin Brysky, Donnina Capell, Sara Edrington, Deneane Summers, Melisa Johnson and husband Jake, Spc. Zachary Estes and wife Roxanne, Chelsea Estes, Eric Means, Laura Means, and Tyler Gatson; and thirteen great grandchildren with one on the way: Logan Brysky, Angela Kyle, Emilee Kyle, Dominic Edrington, Francisco Edrington, Kyler Summers, Kaury Summers, Shelby Johnson, Rayna Johnson, Landyn Johnson, Michael Estes, Amelia and Georgia.
