

Funeral and graveside services will be Wednesday December 29, 2021 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens 701 N 94 St, Kansas City, KS 66112. Visitation will be at 10am followed by services at 11am. We would like to invite everyone to join us for lunch at Chapel Hill afterwards.

Frances was born November 23, 1923 in Iantha, MO. She was one of three children born to her parents, Hazel McLeod and Lester Rix. She grew up in Kansas City, KS where her father owned and ran the Kansan Barber Shop at 5th and Minnesota. In her early years, Frances loved roller skating and enjoyed going to Saturday morning movies . Her interest in reading began at the age of 7 when she read the Sunday newspaper comics to her brother, Wally. She attended Wyandotte High School in 1941 as the first class to graduate from the newly rebuilt school. During high school she worked at Meyer Dairy in Kansas City, KS. After graduating high school, she attended Brown Mackie School of Business in Kansas City, KS and used those skills to work at several insurance companies.
Frances met her husband, Lyle Hacker, in 1943 at a Hostess Club Dance in downtown Kansas City, KS while he was stationed there during World War II. They got engaged before he was sent overseas to the China-Burma Theatre in India for a year. After the war in 1946 they were married in his hometown in Illinois. They then returned to Kansas City, KS where she remained lifelong resident.
Frances became the loving mother for her son, Dale, in 1952. She was a member of Grandview United Methodist Church and was the Church Secretary for several years. She also enjoyed her membership in the Extension Homemakers Unit for 30 years, PTA, and Den Mother. Frances and Lyle loved square dancing and traveling for summer vacations to visit relatives in Illinois and California, as well as trips to Hawaii, New Orleans, and Washington, D.C.
She also enjoyed reading biographies, magazines about home interiors, going to craft shows, visiting with family and friends, shopping, and going for long drives to explore old and new sights. She also loved receiving and writing cards and letters from friends and family.She made many friends with her caregivers from Visiting Angels.
Frances was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Lyle, her loving parents, Hazel and Lester, her brothers, Lolan and Wally, sister-in-law, Pat, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
She is survived by her devoted son, Dale; daughter-in-law, Gail; granddaughter, Dana Roof (Levi); grandson, Ryan Hacker (Haley Williams); nieces, Wanda Franklin, Cindy Swob (Ed), Becky Streetman (Ron), Linda Johnson (Denny); and nephew Mike Rix.
Serving as pallbearers are Ryan Hacker, Levi Roof and Billy Pelkey.
