Frances Louise Martin

Frances Louise Martin, age 86 of Overland Park, KS passed away on Wednesday October 18, 2023. She is preceded in death by her loving husband Maurice (Morris) L. Martin and beautiful daughter Carol A. King.

Frances was born in Salisbury, MO to Hubert and Helen Frans on January 20, 1937. Frances had 3 siblings also preceded in her death, brother Harley Frans, sister Beverly Briscoe and brother Nathan Frans. Frances met the love of her life Maurice (Morris) L. Martin and married August 9, 1952. Morris was in boot camp at Fort Chaffe, AR when they married and was soon shipped off to serve in the Korean War. Frances was expecting their first child while Morris was off to war and when he returned Frances was waiting for him with their baby girl Carol Ann. Frances and Morris went on to raise a family with 4 more children. Frances and Morris were married 60 years before Morris passed 2 weeks later. Frances took so much pride in being the best wife and mother. She would sew clothes for all of the girls. She loved to sew and it showed in her creations. Frances was so busy raising 5 children but it didn’t stop her from making sure her housework was done by early mornings after the kids left for school. Frances was also known for making the best tacos in town. The families would get together for taco nights where Frances along with her sister-in-laws Rosie and Annie followed the same recipe for tacos. One of Frances favorite pastimes was fishing. That was one of her relaxing things to do. After Morris retired from SW Bell and the kids were all grown and moved out of the house they packed up and built a house in Marshfield, MO. Eventually she and Morris settled in Clinton, MO. After the love of her life passed in 2012 Frances remained in Clinton, MO until an unfortunate fall in 2016 her health started to decline. Frances and son Michael decided to move to Overland Park, KS so all the girls could assist Michael with her caretaking. Frances health failed even more with the loss of her beloved daughter Carol (John) King March 2022. Frances moved into Brookdale of Overland Park, KS in July, 2023 and resided there until her passing October 18, 2023.

Frances is survived by her children Janet (Mike)Zagorski, Michael L. Martin, Julie (Larry)Stephen and Connie (Ron) Huffman. She also had grandchildren Shelly Kubicek, Eric King, Crystal Wilkerson, Joey and Alan Martin, Barbie Courtney, Tessa and Emily Huffman. Frances had 13 Great Grandchildren and 10 Great-Great Grandchildren.

The family will receive family and friends on Monday October 23, 2023 for visitation from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Hill Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens 701 N. 94th Street, Kansas City, KS followed by Funeral services at 2:00. Graveside services will be at Grinter Chapel Cemetery 7819 Swartz Road, Kansas City, KS where she will be laid to rest. The family would like to thank Faith Hospice and Gentiva Hospice.
