Fred J. Kirk

Fred J. Kirk, 75, of Kansas City, Kansas, passed away Thursday, March 19th at home, surrounded by family. Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 p.m., Sunday, March 22nd at Chapel Hill – Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 23rd at the funeral home. Interment with Honors will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Fred was born January 5, 1940 in Lincoln, Nebraska to John and Mabel Kirk. He graduated from Southeast High School and joined the Army, both in 1958. Fred moved to Kansas City and worked as a bookbinder for Constable Hodgins. He married Elsie Bloomer on January 29, 1979 and later worked for Graystone Graphics, where he retired. Fred was a lifetime member of the Graphic Communications International Union, Local 235-M. He loved baseball, especially the Royals, and could often be heard talking on his CB Radio, under the handle “Binder.” Fred loved his family and was very proud of his grandkids and his great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mabel Kirk; his brother, Gary Kirk; and his son, Kenneth Kirk.

Fred is survived by his wife of 36 years, Elsie Kirk; his sons, Russell Kirk, Randy Bloomer (Michelle), and Michael Kirk; his grandchildren, Cpl. Nicholas Bloomer (Cpl. Kimberly Bloomer), and Juliana Bloomer; his great-granddaughter, Laila Bloomer; his brothers, Jim Kirk (Lou), and Leo Kirk (Karen); his mother-in-law, Della Brown; his brothers-in-law, Robert “Book” Glenn, Randy Bloomer, Mike Larrabee, and Mickey Brown; his sisters-in-law, Mary Oakley, and Juanita Brown; as well as many family and friends.
