

George Comninellis, 79, passed away September 4, 2015 at Kansas City Hospice House. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. with funeral services following at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at St. Dionysios Greek Orthodox Christian Church, 8100 W 95th St., Overland Park, KS 66212. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 701 N. 94th St., Kansas City, KS 66112. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Dionysios Greek Orthodox Church.
George was born December 4, 1935 in Kontopouli on the island of Limnos in Greece to Nicholas and Eleni Comninellis. He moved to Athens as an infant, then moved back to Limnos in 1940 during WWII, where they stayed until 1946. George started school in Kontopouli and then graduated from school in Athens. George moved to the US in 1954 to attend Park College to study engineering. He worked for the Police and Fire Departments in Parkville in the 1960s. He then owned and operated Olympic Industries, a screen printing business, for 30 years. George was a longtime member of the Coral Ridge Yacht Club in Ft. Lauderdale, where he lived on his yacht. He was also very passionate about soccer, spending time with his family and traveling the world.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas Comninellis and Eleni Kalatsis; his step-father, Gregory Kalatsis; and his sister-in-law, Phyllis Comninellis.
George is survived by his children, Dr. Nicholas Comninellis, Maria (Randy) Seedorff, Chris (Suzanne) Comninellis, Daphne (John) Salmons; his long-time companion, Eleni Sourlis and her family; his brother, Constantine Comninellis; his nephew, Peter Comninellis; his nine grandchildren, Chris O'Conner, Brian O'Conner, Elizabeth Comninellis, James Comninellis, Josh Comninellis, Conner Salmons, Alexander Salmons, John Salmons and January Carter; as well as three great-grandchildren, Maximus O'Conner, Gideon Comninellis and Diesel Carter, and many other relatives and friends.
