Gilbert Charles Fairchild was born on March 7, 1946 in Metairie, Louisiana to Joseph Virgil Fairchild and Emita Melba (Seibert) Fairchild. He graduated Louisiana State University and was a lifelong LSU Tiger fan.
Charles came to Kansas City, MO for training and licensing for a new career with a securities business where he met his future wife, Janet Wear. The two were soon married on May 14, 1977 in Charles' hometown at Crescent City Baptist Church in Metairie, Louisiana, where Charles had grown up as an active member. Charles and Janet moved to Kansas City, Kansas where they lived comfortably for 46 years with Charles working as a licensed CPA. Even adding another member when they adopted their only son, Quentin Charles Fairchild in 2005.
Charles was a committed Christian and an active member of Mission Creek Baptist Church in Edwardsville, Kansas for approximately 45 years. He served in many roles, such as Deacon, Sunday School Director, Treasurer, Sunday School Teacher, Usher and Trustee throughout his time. He was considered a valued and beloved member of the church family.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Emita, and half-sister, Phyllis. He is survived by his beloved wife, Janet, and son, Quentin Duzan Fairchild-KCMO, his brother James C. Fairchild (Brenda) Metairie, LA, his half-brother, Joseph V. Fairchild Jr.-LA, his nephew, Jimmy Fairchild and niece, Melissa Fairchild both of Metairie, LA.
A visitation for Charles will be held Wednesday, September 7, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Chapel Hill - Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, KS 66112, followed by a funeral service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Graveside and internment at Chapel Hill Cemetery immediately following. Rev. Terry Ferris, Mission Creek Baptist Church, Edwardsville, KS will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Charles’ name to Mission Creek Baptist Church, 10900 Riverview Ave., Edwardsville, KS 66111.
