

Jean Trapp, 82, of Olathe, passed away July 17th at Olathe Medical Center. A visitation will be held from 11:00am - 1:00pm, Thursday, July 21st at Chapel Hill – Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, KS 66112. A Rosary will be prayed at 1:00 pm. Entombment will follow in Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, 12800 Parallel Parkway, Kansas City, KS 66109.
Jean was born September 4, 1933 in Metz, Missouri to Lonnie and Hattie Barker. She graduated from Metz High School and started working for Southwestern Bell. Jean moved to Kansas City in 1952 and retired after 37 years with Southwestern Bell, where she had been a long distance operator and a member of the Union and the Pioneers group. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and was active in the American Legion Post 188. Jean enjoyed reading, embroidery and cross-stitch, collecting cookbooks and dolls and playing bingo. When she was younger, she was known as “Jean, Jean, the Dancing Machine” and loved listening and dancing to Country music. She enjoyed watching the Royals and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, one sister, and one grandson, James Meyers. Jean is survived by her daughter, Vicki Meyers (Robert) of Edwardsville; her sister, Janie Bowker of Mt. Vernon, MO; seven grandchildren, Staci Gallagher (Peter), Robert Meyers (Shawna), Jeni Nelson (Darrin), Stephanie Davenport, Tommy Meyers (Ashley), Katee Meyers, and Morgan Meyers; as well as eleven great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
