During this time, he joined the United States Marine Corps Reserve Unit in Springfield, Missouri and served two tours of active duty in Korea and Japan during the Korean War. He recalled seeing all of the support from citizens along the train route standing on the platform waving their hands and flags as their train passed.
When he returned from Korea, he went back to work at the Lebanon Police Department with the rank of Assistant Chief at the time he left the force. Around 1955, he relocated to Kansas City, Missouri. He was employed by Westinghouse, CECO Corporation, and Black and Veatch. John retired from Black and Veatch in 1993. On October 21, 1967, he married Carolyn Clyde. They had one daughter, Jennifer. John has always been devoted to family and often visited his brothers in Longview, Washington and Lebanon, Missouri and his sister in St. Louis, Missouri.
John is survived by his wife, Carolyn; daughter, Jennifer; son-in-law, Michael; and granddaughter, Lauren. He was preceded in death by his son, Aaron Dean Dolan; parents; sister, Nell Dolan Sams of St. Louis, Missouri; brothers, Floyd (Tom) Dolan, Clarence (Pod) Dolan both of Longview, Washington, Freeman Dolan of Lebanon, Missouri and a brother who died in infancy, Donald Monroe Dolan.
