Jean Buckman was born December 18, 1928 at Hess Oklahoma and died September 6, 2022. She was the youngest of eight children born to Charlie and Dovie Nix. Her parents and siblings all preceded her in death.
Jean graduated from Victory Oklahoma high school in 1946. She was valedictorian of both her 8th and 12th grade classes. She was working for the government at Fort Sill Oklahoma when she met her future husband Warrant Officer Bob Buckman. She and Bob married May 5, 1957. Their oldest child was born at Fort Sill Oklahoma and the youngest two were born while they were stationed in Germany. After Bob retired from the Army, they moved to Kansas City, Kansas.
Jean was a homemaker while the children were growing up, and was very active in their school life. At home, she always had dinner on the table at 5:00 so her family could enjoy a meal together every day. She was a wonderful mother, and loved not only by her own children, but also by all of the neighborhood kids. Once the youngest was able to drive himself to school affairs, she went to work for the Social Security Administration, where she quickly rose from typist to benefit authorizer.
Jean and Bob retired from Social Security the same day in 1990. They traveled a lot when they first retired, but in later years spent their time bowling, playing bingo, reading, playing cards and dominos with friends. Jean was also a volunteer at Providence Hospital for over 15 years.
Jean and Bob lived in Kansas City, Kansas from 1970 through 2020 when they moved to Addington Place of Shoal Creek in Kansas City, Missouri to be near their daughter. After Bob’s passing, Jean remained at Addington until three weeks before her passing, when she moved into her daughter’s home where she received loving care in her final days.
Survivors include her son, Bob Buckman Jr. (Cindy) of Dallas, Texas; daughter, Lisa Ruth (Rex) of Kansas City, Missouri; and son, Joe Buckman (Beth) of Clermont, Florida. Also surviving are two granddaughters, two grandsons, two great granddaughters, one great grandson, two nieces and three nephews.
