

Mr. Leonard Connett Jones, 81, of Lenexa, KS, died Monday, March 7, 2011. Mr. Jones was born in Chicago, IL on October 10, 1929 to Arlington Wade (Bill), and Laura Connett Jones, and was a graduate of Lions Township High School. He furthered his education at Berea College, Berea, KY and the University of Nebraska, where he earned a business degree. After graduation, Mr. Jones served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War, from 1951-1953, rising to the rank of staff sergeant. While stationed in Southern California and before shipping out to Korea, Mr. Jones met Miss Anne H. Block. The couple was married upon his return stateside, on June 27, 1954. They were blessed with two daughters, Dianne and Kathy.
Mr. Jones enjoyed his career in the meat packing business, working mostly in the wholesale sales and distribution of poultry. He was with Swift & Co. for 32 years, followed by 12 years with Norbest Foods, Salt Lake City, UT.
He was an active member of the Overland Park Presbyterian Church. He was an ordained elder and served on the Committee on Ministry of Utah Presbytery while living in Sandy, UT.
Mr. Jones took pleasure in a variety of pastimes throughout his life including woodworking and carpentry, golf, dancing, stained glass and gardening. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his friends and family.
Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, John (Jack) E. Jones. Mr. Jones is survived by Anne, his beloved wife of 56 years, his daughters and sons-in-law, Dianne and Frank Deming of Rehoboth Beach, DE, and Kathy and Dennis Onnen of Prairie Village, Kansas and four grandchildren, Scott, John, James and Rebecca.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, March 13, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Overland Park Presbyterian Church, 8029 Overland Park Drive, Overland Park, KS 68204, with the Rev. Jason Carle officiating. The service will be followed by a reception in the Treetop Activity Center in the Southridge building of Lakeview Village, 14001 W 92nd Street, Lenexa, KS 66215. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in the name of Leonard C. Jones may be made to: Overland Park Presbyterian Church. Arrangements under the direction of Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home.
