

Lucy Irene Green, 90, of Kansas City, KS, passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2012 at Providence Medical Center. Funeral Mass will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 5th, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Kansas City, KS. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Monday at the church. The family requests that any contributions be made to St. Patrick’s or the Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Serving as Lucy’s pallbearers will be Phil Thurston, Jeffrey Hightower, Jared Green, Derek Green, Alex Thurston and Jeremy Wilson.
Lucy was born November 26, 1921 in Plains, KS, but was a lifelong Kansas City Area resident. After she graduated from Bishop Ward High School in 1939, she had a few odd jobs until she married, and then she became a Housewife, Stay-At-Home Mother and occasional Seamstress. She had been an active member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, and was currently a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. She was an avid K. U. Basketball Fan, as well as any team of any sport that her children or grandchildren played, as she loved watching and cheering them on. She also enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, sewing, quilting, watching game shows, especially The Price is Right and Wheel of Fortune. She also loved jigsaw and crossword puzzles. Her faith in the Lord and her devotion to her family were the most important things in her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Margaret Stegman; her sister, Regina Straton; 3 brothers, Ray, Bob and Leonard Stegman and a grandson, Rodney Hightower.
Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Cecil Green; her children, Judy & Emmitt Hightower, Kathy & Will Thomas, Ron & Connie Green, and Richard & Sandra “Sam” Green; 9 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; and 2 brothers, Ed Stegman and Jerry Stegman. She was loving and caring, and will be missed not only by her family, but by all who knew her.
