Kay Blair, 77, formerly of Kansas City, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas. Services will be at 11:00am on Tuesday, September 4th, at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6pm to 8pm Monday at Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Alzheimer's Research at https://www.brightfocus.org.
Kay was born April 20, 1941 in Sacramento, California to James and Pearl Eldridge. She was raised and schooled in Milwaukee, Oregon before moving to Kansas City, where she spent most of her life, until she moved to La Feria, Texas 18 years ago. In her younger years, she worked for Robinson Shoe Store, before becoming a Stay at Home Mom, and Home Day Care Provider, which she did for many years, providing services for multiple generations of families.
Kay loved dancing, including square dancing, where she and her husband were members of a square dancing group. She was a Lifetime Member of the Disabled American Veterans, a member of the Eastern Star, as well as a life-long member of the Dummy Club, which was a C.B. Club. Kay loved collecting owls and cardinals, and was known for hosting Christmas Gatherings and other get togethers, where she often served her famous Red Velvet Cake. When she wasn’t cooking or reading, she enjoyed cross stitching, and often provided a cross stitched blanket for babies born to her family and friends. Her love for parties and social gatherings followed her to Texas, as after moving into Palmera Heights Retirement Village, she became their Director of Activities for a while, planning their parties and events.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dana Mashell Blair, when she passed in 2011.
Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Gerald ‘Jerry’ Blair; 4 children, Shannon Blair-Auman & her husband John, Russell Blair, Kevin Blair and Kim Blair-Glasscock & her husband Rick; 6 grandchildren, Tiffany Henderson, Mary Auman, Hannah Deters, Anne Kohlmeyer, Taylor Williams and Zachary Truluck; and 6 great grandchildren, Kyleigh, Jordan, Lexis, Meriska, Bradley and Penelope.
