Mary Lou Aguilar

Mary Lou Aguilar, 91, of Kansas City, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at Providence Medical Center. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 19th at St. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, 44 North Mill Street, Kansas City, Kansas. Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, at the Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, where the rosary will be said at 8:00 p.m. The family requests contributions to Bethel Neighborhood Center, 14 South 7th Street, Kansas City, Kansas 66101.

Mary was born October 14, 1921 in Kansas City, Missouri to Rafael & Martina (Aranda) Mendoza, and she was a lifelong Kansas City Area Resident. She worked for Sunshine Biscuit Company for over 30 years, before retiring in the 1960’s, and was a member of The Baker and Confectionary Union, Local 182. Mary was also a member of All Saints Catholic Church as well as The Bethel Neighborhood Center. She enjoyed watching boxing, and she was active in helping promote local bouts by making wardrobes for boxers and running the concessions for the boxing matches when they used to be held at Sacred Heart in Kansas City, Missouri. She enjoyed many types of sewing, including embroidery and needlepoint, which she taught her daughters.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Aguilar, Sr, when he died in 2002; her son, Anthony Aguilar; 2 brothers, 1 sister and 1 granddaughter.

Survivors include her 4 children, Mary Frances Lawrence and her husband Jack of Kansas City, Kansas, Carmen Rose Diaz-Buffalo and her husband Jack of Roanoke, North Carolina, Joe M. Aguilar, Jr of Kansas City, Missouri, and John M. Aguilar of Jacksonville, Florida; 1 brother, Ramon Mendoza of Kansas City, Missouri; 20 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
