

Raymond Lee Hattaway, 72, of Kansas City, KS., passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at The Sweet Life At Rosehill, of Shawnee, KS. Ray will forever be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was born on January 20, 1939 in Kansas City, KS., to Boyce Lavell and Lola Pauline (Brown) Hattaway. He graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1957. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army. Ray enjoyed watching trains, camping, water skiing, and occasionally fishing. His favorite times were the times he spent with his children and grandchildren. Ray was a faithful member for over fifety years of Victory Hill Baptist Church where he served as Charter Member and Moderator. Ray is preceded in death by his parents and loving wife Judy Hattaway, brother in-laws: Rev. Mel Moyer and Damon Slyter. Survivors include his children: Brenda Chumley and her husband Mike of Basehor, KS., and David Hattaway and his wife Lisa of Shawnee, KS. Left behind to cherish his memory are his seven grandchildren: Garrett, Tara, Amanda, Eric, Katie, Conner and Maureen and two great granddaughters: Kylie and Cora. Ray is also survived by his brother: Boyce Hattaway and his wife Donna of Shell Knob, MO., sisters: Lolita Moyer of Grand Junction, Co., and Ruth Slyter of Topeka, KS. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at the Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home. Burial with military honors in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 9:30-11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home prior to the service.
