Richard Maurice Tattershall, 88, of Shawnee, Johnson County, Kansas, went to be with the Lord on the morning of Tuesday, July 26th, 2022. He was born the seventh child of Barton W. and Edna (Stanturf) Tattershall. He grew up in the Quindaro section of Kansas City, Kansas.
Richard (Dick) attended Wyandotte High School, graduating in 1951. After high school, he attended Kansas City Kansas Junior College. After college Richard enlisted in the Marine Corps and went to train at camp Pendleton in California. After two years of active service, he returned home to Kansas City.
In the middle of 1956, he met Donna Harkness of Turner, KS. On Dec. 21st of that year, they were married. Their first home was in the White Church area of KCK where they lived for 10 years.
Richard worked for 37 years with Gustin-Bacon, which later became CertainTeed/Saint Gobain. In 1968, CertainTeed offered Richard advancement in his career by moving to the newly opened Bala Cynwyd, PA office. In 1970 Richard and Donna purchased a home and moved to the village of Audubon, PA, where they remained for 24 years.
In 1993 Richard and Donna retired, and in March of 1994, they moved back to Shawnee, KS. Richard loved to travel through the United States, soaking up its history and culture. During these travels, Richard enjoyed time with his family, eventually making it to all 50 states. Richard was an avid runner, cyclist, hiker, and golfer and participated in numerous triathlons. He was an exceptionally skilled handball player, and in 1995, at age 62, he won first place in the Kansas City Metro Handball Championships (Super Golden Master's Division). In retirement, he continued his active lifestyle. When he wasn’t involved in some sort of physical activity, he would travel with Donna to visit family, attend Christian conferences, or help chase down clues in Donna's passion for genealogy information.
Richard was a believer in Jesus Christ and a regular attendee of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Overland Park, KS. Although Richard was active for most of his retirement, in 2016, signs of dementia began to appear, slowing down his fast-paced lifestyle. Preceding Richard in death are his parents Barton and Edna (Stanturf) Tattershall (MO), and his siblings Ivan Tattershall (OK), Margorie Twitchell/Vencil (MO), Eugene (WY) who died in infancy, Florence Linkey/Burns (MO), Gerald Tattershall (FL), and Betty Miller (CO). Richard is survived by his wife Donna, four children, and eight grandchildren. His children are Michael Gene and his wife Lisa from Pottstown, PA, Kimberly Colleen Reber and her husband Randall from Morrisville, PA, Jon Eric and his wife Jemmy Chien from Littleton, CO, and Brandon Jay and his wife Lisa from Buena Vista, CO.
