

Rosemary Childers, 87, of Kansas City, Kansas, passed away April 29, 2012. Memorial Mass will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 4, 2012 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 94th & State Ave, Kansas City, Kansas. Visitation will be from 10-11 am at the Church. There will be a private committal service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family, in care of the funeral home.
Rosemary was born May 24, 1924 in Beloit, Kansas to Frank and Catherine (Hanneberg) Engelbert. She graduated from Beloit High School and then attended Marymount College in Salina, Kansas. Rosemary met and married Major C. W. Childers in 1968. They adopted their daughter Laura Nigh in 1970. Rosemary and her family moved to Kansas City from San Antonio in 1976. She worked first as Director of the American Red Cross. Rosemary then became Director of the Piper School District Community Education Program, where she and her staff of incredible volunteers began the Piper Prairie Days, which helped raise funds for the betterment of the community. She was a long time member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and was a member of the Altar Society. Her main hobby and greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren, Alexis, Jeweliet, Kelsey and Courtney.
Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Catherine Engelbert, as well as her husband Major C. W. Childers, and brother Donald Engelbert.
She is survived by her daughter Laura Nigh and husband Reece of Kansas City, Kansas, granddaughters, Alexis and Jeweliet Nigh, step-granddaughters, Kelsey and Courtney Nigh, and her sister Loretta Engelbert of Beloit, Kansas.
