Steve was born on September 26, 1950, in Kansas City, Kansas, where he was born and raised. He spent his career with the Board of Public Utilities (BPU), proudly serving for 25 years before retiring in 2005. Steve also served in The U.S. Army from February 24, 1970, to October 26, 1971. Steve was also awarded a purple heart during his time served.
Steve enjoyed a simple, joyful life filled with the things that mattered most to him. He loved spending time with friends, especially grilling out and partying on Millsap Mountain. Summers often meant canoe trips, and he spent many meaningful hours building hope chests and cabinets alongside his good friend Billy Millsap. Steve loved living in the country and had a lifelong fondness for old country music.
He is survived by his wife, Teressa Kay Stine-McClendon, his partner since 1975 and wife since their marriage on December 10, 1982, in Kansas City, Kansas. The couple moved to Tonganoxie in 1983, where they built their life together. He is also survived by his daughters Michelle Mooberry (John Seymour) of Tonganoxie, KS, and Pam Noack (Tom Noack) of Creve Coeur, MO; his sister Patricia Theroff (Crist Theroff) of McLouth, KS; his brother Perry McClendon, Jr. (Kay McClendon) of San Antonio, TX; along with 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Perry and Georgina McClendon; his sister, Barbara Tabor; and his son, Karie McClendon.
