He was the second oldest of eleven children born to the union of William and Vineda (Draper) Floyd, who preceded him in death along with seven brothers and one sister. He was united in marriage to Delores Robinson, until her homegoing in 1988. To this union seven children were born. Shortly after moving to Kansas City, Alfred was employed with Contour Packaging, Inc., where he later retired as General Manager of two plants that he helped in building into a prosperous growing company. He was called into the ministry in 1981 and was ordained as a minister in 1983, under the leadership of Rev. Henry Levingston, Sr. of Genesis Missionary Baptist Church. Some of his ministries included pastoring at Platte City Baptist Church and associated ministries with Rev. Eddie Flakes of Blue Valley Baptist Church. He retired from the ministry at Covenant Memorial Baptist Church with seventeen years of faithful service and music ministry. He leaves to cherish his memory: his two sisters Wanda Vaughn of Fort Scott, Kansas and Shirley Smith of Omaha, Nebraska; children Mitchell Floyd (Deborah), Michael (Barbara) Floyd of Conyers, Georgia, Donna Richison, Cheryl (Larry) Bennett, Diane Floyd, Jeaulanda Floyd and Pamela Banks all of Kansas City, Missouri; fifteen grandchildren, thirty-seven great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends.
