Alva Council Williams, 90, passed away on November 29, 2016, at Pine Ridge Nursing Home in Colorado. She was born in Boley, Oklahoma to James Russell Council and Estella (Webber) Council on April 22, 1926. Her father was the first African-American agricultural agent in the state of Oklahoma. She graduated with a degree in Elementary Education from Langston University in Langston, Oklahoma, in 1949. She married Herman Williams in December 1950; they had one son, Daryl, currently of Colorado.
She taught elementary school in Kansas City, Missouri for over thirty years. After retirement, she taught first grade at Kiddie Kollege, the school her sister Maxine Williams founded in Kansas City, Kansas. Mrs. Williams was a member of Allen Chapel A.M.E. for 57 years. At Allen Chapel, she served on the Steward Board, was the Usher Board President, a member of the United Ushers, and President of Sarah Allen Women’s Missionary Society.
She leaves in mourning her son Daryl C. Williams, her daughter-in-law, Lisa Williams, grandson Daryl E. Williams, nieces Brenda Williams Mercomes and Faune Watkins, grand-nieces, Staci Williams Seeley, Karen Alston, and Alecia Alston Hudson and grand-nephew Kwaku Alston, plus three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held 10:00-11:00 am Tuesday, December 6 followed by Funeral service at 11:00 am at Mount Moriah, Newcomer and Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64131. Burial in Mount Moriah Cemetery.
