Alyssa was born in Harrisonville, Missouri on July 24, 1987 to Steve and Julie Catron. She grew up in Minneapolis, KS, graduating from high school in 2006, then attended Washburn University and Tabor College, graduating with a BS in Education in 2010. She served as a middle school math teacher and girls’ basketball coach for eight years in Eureka, Pratt, and Piper school districts. Aly dedicated her life to educating and inspiring others, later moving into the private sector and traveling across the country to train and teach for Oracle (Cerner).
Students and coworkers testify today to her dedication to the task. She brought joy and love to her work and their learning. Her contributions to the lives of those she touched will be felt for years to come. That love and joy was something Aly’s friends and family experienced in full abundance. She was the first to sign up for a road trip, a ball game, or any adventure. But she was not just there for the good times. Aly gifted her friends and family up with her trademark smile, joyful energy and the perfectly timed care package. Even in illness she was concerned with the impact on others, serving her family and friends, showing the love of Christ that filled her. To be loved by Aly was to know true love. To have fun with Aly was to know true joy.
That love and joy that Aly was so well known for was on full display when she married Sean O’Neill in May of 2023 at Resurrection’s Wesley Chapel in Leawood, Kansas. She and Sean continued to give of their talents and gifts in many ways for the church, their cherished small group, as well as acts of service and prayer across the community.
Alyssa is survived by her husband, Sean O’Neill, her mom Julie Pieschl, sister Melanie Weeks (Dan), brothers Derek Pieschl (Taegen Larsen) and Dylan Pieschl, stepdad Greg Pieschl, grandmothers Trulla Cole and Betty Catron, nephews Will, Toby, and Elliott Weeks, as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, and many beloved friends. She is preceded in death by her dad Steven Catron, and grandfathers Eddie Catron and Don Cole.
