
Anna Zoe Nelligan, 92, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at John Knox Village Hospice Care Center, Lee’s Summit, MO. A memorial funeral mass will be held on Monday, July 11 at 7:00p.m. at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 3736 Lee’s Summit Rd, Independence, MO 64055 (816)373-2600. Visitation will be 5:30 to 7:00p.m. prior to the mass. The family will have private graveside services. Anna was born October 25, 1918 in Slater, MO, the daughter of Earl Doc Smith and Zora Mae (Howell) Smith. Anna lived in the Kansas City and Independence area for many years before moving to Mesa, AZ. She moved back to the Kansas City area in the fall of 2002. Anna and her husband, Bill loved to dance. They were usually the first couple on the dance floor and the last ones to leave; only because the band was leaving. Anna lovingly raised her six children. She was always at your side to guide and support you. Anna’s love was everlasting and we will always remember her radiant smile. Anna was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 52 years, William A. Nelligan, who passed away in November of 1990. She is survived by three sons, Tim Nelligan & wife, Sandy of Mesa, AZ, Scott Nelligan & wife, Margo of Austin, TX, and Mike Nelligan & wife, Nancy of Independence, MO; three daughters, Carol Courtney & husband, Jack, Debbie Bottorff & husband, Cliff all of Kansas City, MO and Mary Welch of Blue Springs, MO; her sister, Peggy Marks & brother-in-law, Tom Marks of Peoria, AZ; 10 grandchildren, Christele Courtney, Colleen Pruetting, Brad Courtney, Shane Wood, Casey Wood, Michele Nelligan, Jeremy Nelligan, Nicolle Jackson, Tara Nelligan, & Hannah Nelligan and 16 great-grandchildren.
