Art was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri. He was the oldest of four siblings.
Art graduated from Center High School in 1960. After High School, Art was a Sergeant in the United States Army from 1964-1966 and stationed at Fort Lewis Washington. He came back to Kansas City and worked for many years in the printing industry which included IBM and HNTB, he enjoyed his career very much. He also owned and operated a toy store in Belton, MO for a few years.
Art was preceded in death by his parents, James and Lola Maxine (Smith) McCollom, and his brother Loyd Max McCollom. Art is survived by his brother Robert Lee McCollom (Aurelia), sister Celia Ann Trusler (Steve); son Shawn McCollom and daughter Allison McCollom (Abe); grandchildren Caleb McCollom, Aiden McCollom and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO, on Friday, May 3, 2024 with visitation from 10-11:00 am, and service to follow. Burial will follow in Mount Moriah Cemetery South.
