Aurora Rios Garcia

With her loving family by her side, Aurora Rios Garcia, age 92, went to be with the Lord on January 26, 2013. She was born on December 31, 1920 in Kansas City, Kansas to Isaac and Josephina (Leon) Rios. Aurora raised two beautiful sons who were the light of her life. She moved to Chicago where she began working for Vienna Beef. She was a proud union member of USCW. At age 65 she retired and moved back to Kansas City to enjoy many wonderful years with her loving family and friends. She was a devoted member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help- Redemptorist Catholic Church. She and her sister, Elvira, loved spending time together at the Redemptorist Senior Center and Guadalupe Center. One of her greatest joys was spending time with and spoiling her grandchildren. She loved music, dancing, Elvis, and a hot cup of black coffee with a piece of sweet bread. Her faith was strong, her love was endless, and her humorous spirit was contagious.

She is preceded in death by her son, Dr. Anthony Joseph Garcia; her parents; brothers, Alexander Rios and Daniel Rios; sister, Ermelinda Reyes; and daughter-in-law, Elnora Garcia Koetting. Left to cherish her memory are her sister, Elvira Briones of Kansas City, MO; her son, Richard Garcia and his wife Ellen of Raytown, MO; their children, Ricky Joe, Lisa, Gina, Annamarie, and Kellie; Anthony's children, Michelle Holsted and her husband Steve, and Celia Sumner and her husband Shelby, both of Kansas City, MO; 11 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; along with many loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at Redemptorist Catholic Church, 3333 Broadway, Kansas City, MO 64111. Entombment in Mt. Calvary Mausoleum in Kansas City, KS. Visitation will be 6:00- 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at the McGilley Midtown Chapel, 20 West Linwood Blvd., Kansas City, MO, where the Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kansas City Hospice.
