

Carleen was born in Kansas City Missouri to Emmett and Ethel Edwards on January 21, 1935. She attended Northeast High School and graduated in May of 1953. She also attended Central Missouri State University for 1 year studying English.
After returning home, Carleen took several jobs around Kansas City including department stores, a MD then settling in working for KMBC TV editing and writing their on-air copy with her perfect penmanship.
On October 26, 1956, Carleen married her husband of 68.5 years Donald Joe Dixon in a small ceremony at Bethany Baptist Church in Kansas City.
Don and Carleen lived in Kansas City for many years and embarked on many adventures across the country together including many destinations in California, South Dakota, and trips to Yellowstone National Park.
With the desire to become parents, Carleen became Mom to Andrew Lee and Margaret Joanne. Carleen became a homemaker with unwavering love, impeccable taste and amazing organizational skills serving her family faithfully and wonderfully. She even learned to drive in 1972 so she could pick her children up at school and take them to the Doctor whenever it was needed. Her family meant everything to her, serving on PTA boards, and watching their sporting events and dance recitals.
Carleen was an extremely artistic person. From drawing pictures of trees and flowers on her daughter’s school lunch bag, her creations were enjoyed by both family and friends. She would knit many sweaters, mend clothes and cross-stitch so many beautiful works. Her work with ceramics found their way into many places including the homes of many professional football players. Her beautiful cross-stitching creations were gifted to family and friends and charities over many years.
Carleen was an avid reader and loved participating in most outdoor activities including swimming, watching football and baseball, going to amusement parks, traveling, camping and shows. At the encouragement of her cousin Sybil (Edwards), she took up golf at 43 years old and fell in love with the sport. She golfed until she was 86 years old. She never failed to watch any and every golf tournament and Royals baseball game on TV until shortly before she passed away.
Carleen is survived by her husband and best friend of 68.5 years Donald Dixon (90), Her sister Margaret Whetsel (92) of Independence, Missouri, Her children, Andrew Dixon (59) of Grandview, Missouri, Margaret Dixon (57) of Blue Springs; Five grandchildren: Samantha Marlow (29) of Parkville, Missouri, Sarah Marlow (27) of Blue Springs, Missouri, Benjamin Dixon (24) of Winter Park, Florida, Braden Dixon (19) of Raymore, Missouri, Jacob Stanecki (16) of Blue Springs, Missouri, and one Great Grandchild Ezekiel Marlow (5) of Blue Springs, Missouri.
A visitation for Carleen will be held Friday, August 1, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at McGilley & Sheil Funeral Home, 11924 East 47th Street, Kansas City, Missouri 64133, with funeral service following at 12:00 PM. Committal will follow at Mt. Washington Cemetery (24 Hwy Gate), 614 S Brookside Ave., Independence, Missouri 64053.
