With hearts full of love and gratitude, we announce the passing of our beloved matriarch, Barbara June Hicks, who left this world peacefully, surrounded by family on May 29, 2025. Known for her quick wit, vibrant spirit, and deep love for her family, Barbara was the heartbeat of every gathering. Whether she was cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs or clinking coffee mugs at her favorite brunch spot, she brought joy and laughter wherever she went. Barbara lived a life rich in joy, warmth, and adventure. A devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, she brought intellect and humor into every room she entered, and she was always the life of the party. Whether it be a family gathering, a spirited bridge game -Barbara was ranked 13th among the women and 65th overall in District 15- or a sunny beach vacation you could count on her to bring the excitement to any event.
But her greatest joy came from being with her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. She never missed a chance to spoil them with love, stories, treats, or time. She made every visit feel like a celebration and every moment count. Barbara loved Jesus, was a lifelong learner, and was one of the smartest people you’d ever meet.
Barbara graduated from Blue Mound High School, received her undergraduate degree at Emporia State University, and completed her MBA at Webster University. In the early ‘80’s, following her rededication to Jesus, she established Boundless Love Ministries. What began as a storefront ministry expanded to a radio broadcast and tapes. Barbara, an ordained minister, loved preaching the gospel both locally and across the world. Barbara introduced so many people to Jesus and His love. Barbara retired from AT&T to join her daughter, Trice, on the adventure of a lifetime. Together, they started Greater Kansas City Realty.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Dudley, her parents (Faye and Hazel); her brother (Robert); her sister (Mary Faye); her son (Michael); and her great-granddaughters (Emma and Bella). Barbara is survived by her beloved children: Gregory, Pamela, and Patrice; her cherished grandchildren: Maggie (Alan), Jessica (Jason), Adam (Taylor), Lucas (Tori), Gabriel, and Kayla; and her treasured great-grandchildren: Nathan, Grayson, Brecken, Jack, Henry, Vivian, Corey, Harper, Violet, Adeline, Oliver, Penelope, Benjamin, Lilah, Phoenix, and Larrett.
