There are not enough words in the entire Dictionary that can begin to describe this remarkable guy. He was a quiet, Prince among Men. Giving of himself, always putting others first and never expecting or accepting anything in return. He kept his promises, always did the right thing, and lived by the golden rule. After losing our dad (Hal) in 2011, he honored his promise to him to look after Mom (Jeanne) so that she could stay in the home she loved and resided in until passing at 100 years old on December 19, 2022.
To borrow just a few of Webster’s words, Bart was a gentle, kindhearted, and genuine soul. He was generous, gracious, gregarious, magnanimous, humorous, and loyal. And yet, he was also stubborn, opinionated, and loved to banter about ideas, some which might flare a few folks, but never was it his intention to alienate or wound. Few are those who did not genuinely like and appreciate Bart. He was the real deal.
He loved the sun, warm weather, beach walks, and sailing. He was ready to say goodbye to the cold Kansas winters and hoped one day soon to live in shorts and bare feet. He tinkered and toiled and gained pride in fixing things himself. He was always working on something. Despite all odds, he was a perpetual optimist – maybe one day that lottery ticket might just pay out. The moniker of “Old School” suited him…down to his flip phone, which reluctantly he surrendered, and the guttural roar from the ‘68 Firebird 400, a car we still drove from high school. To him, texting was a necessary nuisance, which he would type minimal word replies. He loved giving his Curbside service to new and old customers and friends that patronized his limo business.
Bart was the epitome of the great brother, son, uncle, neighbor, limo driver, classmate, customer, boss, coworker, acquaintance, and friend. He had a big smile and a friendly welcome for everyone he encountered, never really knowing many strangers, and always a bit more trusting than not.
He leaves behind his two sisters, Marty, and Sidney (Jim), his nephews Eric (Meghan) and Brad (Rachel) and great nephew Owen. And a life full of friends, customers and neighbors who are touched in a special way by him.
