Becky Marie Ackerman Edgar

Becky Marie Edgar, 60, of Leawood, Kansas, passed away Thursday, November 10, 2011 at Kansas City Hospice House. A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, November 16th, 10:00 a.m., at McGilley State Line Chapel, with burial following in Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 15th, at McGilley State Line Chapel from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wayside Waifs, Inc., P.O. Box 9791, Kansas City, MO, 64134.

Becky was born on March 2, 1951 in Port Huron, Michigan to Ronald J. Ackerman and Elizabeth Patricia (Papinaw) Ackerman.

Becky attended St. Pius X High School and graduated from Northwest Missouri State University in 1973. She then went on to obtain a Master of Public Administration degree from UMKC in 1981. She worked for the Federal government for several years prior to the birth of her children.

Becky was a loving wife, mother and devoted friend. She enjoyed exercise and was an avid runner. She loved trips to the lake and attending baseball games in the summer, as well as KU football games in the fall. Becky enjoyed family vacations and any kind of travel. She had a special devotion to several dogs in her life and through her compassion, grew into an advocate for dogs in need.

Becky was preceded in death by her father, Ronald J. Ackerman. She is survived by her mother, Elizabeth Ackerman of Olathe, KS; spouse, Roger Edgar of Leawood, KS; daughters, Sarah Edgar of New Haven, CT; Laura Edgar of Overland Park, KS; siblings; Gary Ackerman of Independence, MO; Beth Schrantz of DeSoto, KS; Larry Ackerman of Olathe, KS; and Judy Murphy of Overland Park, KS.
