In her early years, Betty Ann worked the phone company and then for HODA (early version of Home Interiors). After that she worked at the Veterans' Affairs Hospital in administration for many years before retiring. But being retired from the VA didn’t stop her because she volunteered at the Kansas City Zoo, Union Station, Starlight Theatre, the Kansas City Museum on Gladstone Boulevard, and pretty much
anywhere else she was needed. She was also a member of the Raytown Cactus Club and Betty Ann and her husband, Richard, were square dancers for the Silver Spurs and they also played bridge with the same group of friends for about 20 years.
Betty Ann was always ready for an adventure and willing to try new things, like riding a jet ski in her 70’s! Betty Ann had a vast knowledge of Kansas City and when we would drive around, she would tell you interesting facts about certain buildings and parks and so forth. Her house was full of pictures of Kansas City locations and scenery. Betty Ann was extremely proud of Kansas City.
Betty Ann loved sports. She went to most of her son's baseball games and attended PTA meetings. She liked watching the Kansas State Wildcats (their uniforms were purple!). She loved the Kansas City Chiefs, especially Travis Kelce (her boyfriend!). But Betty Ann’s passion was the Kansas City Royals! She would drop everything and watch their games no matter what time they played.
But most of all, Betty Ann loved her family and doted on her grandkids. She was more than thrilled when she found out that she was going to be a great-grandmother!
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Richard (2017) and daughter-in-law, Iris Miller (2011). She is survived by her three sons, James “Jim” Miller, John “Rick” Miller (Pat), and William “Bill” Miller (Debbie). Her three grandchildren, Preston (Amanda), Nicole “Niki”, and Brett. And her two great-granddaughters, Valen and Arla. She also leaves behind two grandpuppies, Sky and Romeo.
