Brian Kent Foster was born on June 1, 1959 at Research Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri. He passed away September 11, 2024 at Menorah Medical Center in Overland Park, Kansas. His parents were Robert Eugene Foster & Leah Rae (Moore) Foster.
He loved to have people guess what his initial “K” stood for. No one could ever get it right. He loved his middle name Kent. The back story is that his mom remembered a boy in grade school with that wonderful name.
He grew up in South Kansas City in the 60’s when life was simple & dinners were home-made. Being an only child, wasn’t easy. His parents understood that he was just an active little guy, who enjoyed the carefree life of the era. Cub scouts & swimming lessons were activities that served him well. He went to Harry S. Truman Elementary School in Kansas City, MO & finished school at Belton High School in Belton, MO.
On December 24, 1977, Brian married Leslie Irene Foster. To this marriage two sons were born: Nicholas James & Dennis Lee. Brian & Leslie divorced in 1991.
Brian’s parents divorced in 1971 and his mom moved to California ten years later. Visiting the west coast was always great fun. When Brian & his mom would go to the movies, Brian loved every single one. It was always the best movie he’d ever seen.
Brian & his mom took a Central California road trip in October 2002 in her dependable 1996 Toyota Corolla. The wonders were spectacular. Yosemite, Charles Shulz Museum, St. Francis Winery, & finally Monterey Aquarium. The drive home was via Highway 1 on a road which hugged the Pacific Ocean. At the end of that drive, they both had sore necks from leaning into the curves of the road.
Fox Run apartments in Overland Park was where Brian worked for 34 years. Heading their Maintenance Department & keeping it running smoothly was something in which he excelled. He was especially proud of how clean he kept their swimming pool. In August 2021, he could no longer work because of his COPD.
He is survived by his mother, Leah Rae, Laguna Woods, California; his son Nick, Overland Park, Kansas, son Dennis (Katie) Bonner Springs, Kansas; his 5 grandchildren; and his close friend, Chris Flores. He was preceded in death, by his brother, Jeffery Lynn in 1957; and father, Bob in 2015.
A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 18, at 12:00PM at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, Kansas City, MO, with a graveside service following at 1:00PM Mount Moriah Cemetery South.
Brian felt that people should dress appropriately for each occasion. Please do not wear flip-flops to his funeral.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association or Wayside Waifs.
