He will be lovingly remembered by his parents, Terry & Joan Melvin; siblings, Ryan Melvin, Tara (Sam) Mason & Connor (Lauren Hjelmaas) Melvin; nephew, Liam Mason; niece, Tilly Mason; as well as hundreds of friends & extended family members who knew and loved him. He is predeceased by his grandparents, Thomas & Anne McKeegan and Dick & Claire Melvin; and uncle, Rik Melvin.
Bryce was born at Stanford Hospital in Palo Alto, CA with a shock of black hair and the sweetest, roundest face. His grandmother Anne swore Joan to secrecy but confided that he was the most beautiful of all the Melvin babies.
He lived in the San Francisco Bay Area until he turned three and then spent the majority of his childhood tagging along behind his three older siblings in Eugene, Oregon. His mom splurged on a shearling papoose for the carseat because he spent so much time being carted around to everyone else’s activities. That was until he started soccer which he only stuck with for two seasons because he said it was “just a lot of running around chasing a ball.” He later tried his hand at baseball and became pretty good at it when we finally discovered he needed glasses. Basketball followed and so did an injury to his knee which resulted in a Nike swish scar. Needless to say, he loved sports but excelled as a spectator.
Bryce moved to Overland Park, Kansas when he was starting middle school. He attended Blue Valley Northwest and graduated from Blue Valley West High School and University of Kansas. His older brother Connor minored in Business so of course he had to major in it. During his time in Lawrence, he was a founding father of Sigma Pi Fraternity. After graduation, he worked alongside his dad as a project manager at Arrow Acquisition.
There were few things Bryce cherished more than live music, his loved ones, abstract art and the outdoors. He treated his vast network of friends as family and was fiercely loyal, open-hearted and unwaveringly available through all of life’s ups and downs.
Bryce didn’t know a stranger, quick to greet literally everyone with his wide smile and barrage of questions–eager to connect and learn. He was both curious and compassionate. You know how people say “be a sponge”? That was Bryce. Smart as a whip too.
