

Calvin Chad Freeman was born June 3, 1924 on a farm near Findlay, Illinois. He passed away January 2, 2019 in Lee's Summit, Missouri. He was born to David Walker Freeman and Effie Dora (Mann) Freeman. The name Chad came from one of his brothers who was reading a book and the character's name was Chad. With his brother's insistence that is how he received this name.
He was the seventh of eight children. He attended Maple Grove Elementary, a rural one room country school. His sister, Dora, was his 5th and 6th grade teacher. Miss Dorothy Totten who later married his brother Delbert was his 7th and 8th grade teacher. This was near the end of the one room school. He graduated from Sullivan High School in 1942. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1944-1946 and was in the training command. He flew as flight engineer on B-24 bombers. He also trained pilots for B-24's and flight engineers for B-27's. He received an Honorable Discharge on May 21, 1946. On June 21, 1946 he married Ruby Lee Landes of Kansas City, Missouri. Their courtship was 28 months by letter writing.
He was employed with the United States Postal Service in which he served as letter carrier, clerk, and manager of various stations, the last one being Manager of the Raytown Post Office. While working at the post office, Chad and Ruby Lee ran a print shop on Main Street on the Plaza and then from their home in Raytown. After retiring from the postal Service in 1979, he worked in real estate for seven years.
Although he had various illnesses and surgeries, he enjoyed the Lord's blessings each and every day.
Chad is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and two sisters. He is survived by one sister, Lois Edna Carter, of Columbia, Missouri.
Chad is also preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Lee, his daughter, Marcia Elaine Stanley, and one grandson Kurt Alan Stanley. He is survived by a daughter Glenda Teghtmeyer and her husband Sam, six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
