Carl was born on December 30, 1933, to Carl and Virgie Cage in Kansas City, MO. During Carl's younger years the family moved around the state of Missouri, lived for a short time in Denver, Colorado and finally settled back in Kansas City. Carl accepted Jesus as his Savior at the age of 5.
Carl graduated from Central High School in 1951. Following graduation, he attended Central Missouri State College where he met Mary Lee, his wife of 70 years at the Baptist Student Union. They married on a snowy day in March 1955. Carl graduated from Central Missouri state in 1955 with a business degree.
Carl worked at Farmland Industries for 35 years and retired from his position as CFO at the age of 59. While at Farmland he earned a master's degree in business administration from Rockhurst University.

Over his lifetime Carl enjoyed fishing every chance he had. Many family vacations were spent at the side of Roaring River where he always promised his waiting family "just one more cast". He also enjoyed days spent in a boat on area lakes.
During his retirement years Carl became a master wood carver, and it pleased him to make many Christmas characters for family and friends. He also carved a large collection of fish, wildlife, Native American items and clowns.
Carl and Mary Lee also filled those same years traveling together. Some of those trips were just the two of them, some with family and others with friends and tour groups.
Together they vacationed in all 50 states and in several European countries including Ireland, England and Switzerland.
