Carol Sue Spight grew up in North Kansas City, Missouri and was the youngest of Rolle and Dagmar Baughman’s four children. She attended elementary school there, was a lover and owner of horses and was an experienced, accomplished equestrian. She participated in barrel racing and rode in the American Royal Parade for multiple years.
She attended North Kansas City High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society, was elected to the Homecoming Court, and was a Pom Pon Girl, and graduated in 1971.
Upon graduation she attended the University of Missouri in Columbia, graduating with a BS degree in 1975. While at Mizzou, she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and was elected to both Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities and Outstanding Young Women of America.
After graduation, she was hired by the State of Missouri-Jackson County Division of Family Services as a Social Worker. She left there after several years to pursue a career in Radio Sales for local stations KKCI and KBEQ where she received multiple sales awards over the years for high monthly and quarterly sales records.
During her working years and after retiring, Carol traveled to ski resorts, but had a particular passion for cruising, between 20-30 in total. After meeting her husband, Mike, in December 2006, they shared many adventures together cruising the high seas, traveling by rail around Europe, and on road trips across the United States to resorts from Arizona, to Florida, the Great Smoky Mountains, and beach locations extending from Florida all the way up to Cape Cod. Overseas destinations included Russia, England, Estonia, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands, Vatican City, Samoa, American Samoa, Tahiti, Mo’orea, and Bora-Bora. Carol on her own, and later with Mike, also cruised to many of the Caribbean Islands.
Carol was a dedicated physical fitness enthusiast who ran, lifted weights and who habitually used Stairmaster and elliptical machines at Woodside, where she was a member for 30+ years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rolle and Dagmar Baughman, and her brother, Dr. Kenneth Baughman (Cheryl). She is survived by her husband Michael G. Spight, Lieutenant Colonel (Ret) US Army, her brother Ronald Baughman (Beverly), her sister Barbara Kattman (Dick), and grandson Colin Beaudin.
