was born September 8, 1928 in St. Louis, Mo. She attended Fontbonne College for two years before marrying Richard Schweiger (Dick) of Kansas City, Mo. Catherine and Dick were married July 5, 1948 in St. Louis, Mo. The couple moved to Kansas City in 1948 and to Leawood, Kansas in 1951. From 1951 until her death, Catherine became and would remain a Kansan and a passionate fan of the Kansas Jayhawks.
Catherine was an avid tennis player, bridge player and gardener. Above all she enjoyed spending time at her beloved farm, fishing and enjoying its quiet beauty. She shared her infectious joy of life with everyone. Once she met you, you were never a stranger again. She was blessed with a large group of caring, compassionate friends who made her last days on this earth meaningful and filled with beautiful memories. To these friends, we cannot begin to express our gratitude for the love you have shown our mother not only these past weeks, but over the many years you have known her.
Catherine was a beautiful, caring mother who never stopped loving, supporting and believing in each of her five children. She will leave such a hole in our lives. We can only hope she is looking over all of us and showing us how to go on without her.
Catherine was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Richard W. Schweiger, her parents, Catherine and Nicholas Hummel and a granddaughter, Kathryn N. Marting. She is survived by her five children, nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren: Jane Schweiger, Leawood, Kansas; Lawrence Schweiger (Marsha) and granddaughters Kristen Schweiger and Lauren Schweiger Dillin (Ryan); Catherine Acuff, Overland Park, Ks. and grandsons Justin Marting, Robert Acuff and granddaughter Laura Acuff; Carol Meharry, (John) , Leawood, Ks. and grandsons Ryan Meharry (Yamara) and Thomas Meharry; and John Schweiger, (Kathleen) and grandson Nicholas Schweiger and granddaughter, Jennifer Schweiger.
