Cathy was born November 28, 1945 to Alice Catherine Hammond. She graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School in 1963, and was honored to work in several Federal Government Departments in Kansas City, including as an air traffic controller and a legal secretary. She met and married Tom on November 3, 1973. He was her partner for almost 50 years.
Cathy was an avid reader who loved historical fiction. She had a knack for numbers, history and the English language, and her intelligent wordplay, wit, and ornery sense of humor entertained anyone lucky enough to know her. Always very generous, she donated what she could when she could. Whether it was to one of her many charitable organizations or for a cherished loved one, she was always willing to help however she could. Cathy was a private person, but once you were a member of her family, biological or chosen, you were a member for life.
She is survived by her three children, Clinton Metz of Gladstone, Missouri, Cheryl Metz of Gladstone, Missouri, Lisa M. Cook and husband Walter of Mission, Kansas; and one granddaughter, Eleanor Valentine Cook.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Edward Metz, of Gladstone, Missouri.
Visitation and Funeral are scheduled for 1pm at McGilley Antioch Chapel on Saturday, December 7, 2024. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Cathy's life.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
