Chuck was born on April 11, 1944 in Kansas City, MO to his parents Paul Anthony Bittner and Anna Mae (Leitner) Bittner. He was raised in Overland Park, KS and graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School. He joined the Naval Reserves while still in high school and after graduation he entered basic training at Olathe Naval Air Station. After basic training he was called to active duty in San Diego aboard the aircraft carrier USS Midway as a member of the flight deck crew. After completing active duty, he returned to Overland Park and met the love of his life, Judy, at the Young Catholic Adult Club in Kansas City, Missouri. They were joined in matrimony on October 1, 1966 and settled in Raytown, MO where they raised their beautiful daughters, Jan and Patsy. They were devoted parishioners of St. John Francis Regis Catholic Church.
Chuck retired from USDA as a Consumer Safety Inspector Supervisor. Prior to working for USDA, he was a meat salesman for Fisher Meat Company for 19 years. Chuck had many hobbies he enjoyed such as Chiefs football, grilling, boating, camping, hunting, woodworking, traveling, and working in his yard. As busy as his hobbies kept him, his most favorite pastime was spending time with his family.
Chuck was a devout Catholic and served on the School Board of Religion at St. John Francis Regis Church and was a member of Knights of Columbus. He was true to his beliefs, a man of his word, and had strength like no other.
Chuck was a dedicated husband, a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife Judy of 58 years. His two daughters Jan (Mark) Hays and Patsy (Tim) Thieme. Three grandchildren: Ashley (Matt) Schmidt, Tristan Thieme, and Emma Thieme. Three great-grandchildren: Caleb Hays, Noah Cockman, and Madisyn Cockman. Siblings Catherine (Val) Indzers and Steve Bittner, sisters-in-law Carol Welborn and Kathy Rogers, brothers-in-law Tom (Becky) Reynolds and Steve (Jeni) Reynolds, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents Paul & Anna Mae Bittner, siblings Mary Fobes and Tom Bittner, his uncle Monsignor John Leitner, and many other beloved family members.
Services will be at St. Regis Catholic Church on Monday, February 17, 2025 with visitation at 10:00, Mass of Christian burial at 11:00, and internment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery immediately afterwards.
The family requests that donations in Chuck’s memory can be made to American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
