Charles E. Deister, 77, of Smithville, MO died Thursday, February 28, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family.
Charles was born on April 22, 1941 in Kansas City, MO to Floyd and Mary Alice (Thorpe) Deister. He married Ruth Ann (Jenkins) Deister of Kansas City, MO on May 4, 1963.
Survivors include: two sons, Matthew Deister and Maria of Kansas City, MO; Charles “Toby” Deister and Christine of Gladstone, MO; one daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Craig Gastineau of Smithville, MO, 10 grandchildren; Fr. Charles Deister, Kassandra Deister, James Deister, Monica Deister, Steven Deister, Emily Deister, Sophie Deister, Evan Gastineau, Claire Gastineau, and Alice Gastineau.
In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his wife Ruth Ann, and his brother; Donald F. Deister.
Charles was a graduate of De la Salle High School, Kansas City, MO. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers (Local 101) of Kansas City and worked in the construction industry most of his life. Later in life, he worked as an armed courier for Loomis Fargo Armored Courier Services of Kansas City. In retirement, he very much enjoyed volunteering as chauffer/driver for the Priests of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, as well as for the Priests of the U.S. District Headquarters for the Priestly Society of St. Pius X.
Charles was a devout Roman Catholic, Servant for our Lord, and Soldier for Christ. He attended the Latin/Tridentine Roman Catholic Mass offered at St. Vincent de Paul Church, Kansas City, MO. He was a member of Knights of the Immaculata whose apostolate is contained in these words; “to do all for the conversion of sinners, and for the sanctification of all persons under the sponsorship of Mary, the Immaculate Mediatrix”.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Vincent de Paul Church, 3106 Flora Ave., Kansas City, MO. 64109.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 8:00 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 3106 Flora Ave, Kansas City, MO. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Kansas City, MO (North).
