Chuck married his high school sweetheart, Betty when she was just 19 years old. From the very start of their relationship, they knew they would be married one day. For Chuck and Betty’s first date, they went and saw a movie: "The Devil on my Shoulder" with Claude Rains. While they were engaged, they were playing ball in Lake Calhoun and Betty's engagement ring flew off her finger into the lake. Chuck dove over and over to try to find it that day to no avail. The next morning, the water was lower and he had found a comb on the beach. So he used the comb to look for the ring in the sand - and he found it! They went to Chicago for their honeymoon and for the first time Betty had champagne.
Chuck worked for Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) for 45 years before retiring. Chuck was an Army veteran. He served in the Naval Reserve and the US Army.
