Cheryln Kay Cleveland

She was born in Independence, MO to Robert & Shirley Warner in September 1950. There she grew up along with her 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Cheryln graduated from Truman High School in 1968 and started college at Central Missouri State University extension center in Independence that fall.

In December 1968, Cheryln married Larry Cleveland. Following her husband's U.S. Naval assignment to Alexandria, Virginia, she became a federal civil service employee at U.S. Navy Material Command, Naval Investigative Service Headquarters and Naval Intelligence Command.

Upon her husband's release from the Navy, they returned to the Independence area and soon purchased their first home in Raytown. They had two daughters, Andrea and Melissa. The family attended Raytown RLDS (later Community of Christ) and became active in church life there and went to church family camps and congregational float trips.

Cheryln taught girls programs there, progressing from 6-8 year old to 9-12 year olds and finally young teens. She always liked to stay busy, so once the girls were in elementary school she expanded into various employment adventures. She could do anything she set her mind to. Beginning work as a tax preparer for 25+ years, office clerical work and part-time retail sales at a local Hallmark store for entertainment and the opportunity to easily add to her ornament collection. Cheryln also worked in dental offices as a receptionist, insurance specialist and even dental assistant on occasion.

The family liked to travel and with Larry's TWA job were able to visit Hawaii, Greece, Germany and Florida's Disney World, Colorado, Washington D.C., Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and Williamsburg, Virginia.

Cheryln was known by many as an avid garage saler, book reader, crafter and artist, she loved celebrating birthdays and holidays with family and friends, playing with her four grandchildren and watching them grow. She had the best laugh that more times than not could be heard down the hall and throughout the church or house. If you were fortunate enough to be at the Cleveland home or potluck event at church, you might have had the pleasure to Salmon Patties, Potato Soup, Homemade Spaghetti Sauce, No Bake Cookies, Graham Cracker Bars or Texas Chocolate Sheet Cake.

Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 56 years, Larry Cleveland, daughter Andrea Webb (Ben), daughter Melissa Thomason, grandchildren Sean Webb, Morgan Webb (Mathias Ham), Lauren and Conner Thomason, sister Terese Fisher and brother Steven Warner, many aunts and uncles and cousins on her mother's side of the family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert L. & Shirley J. Warner, brothers Dr. Michael D. Warner and Darrell Warner and sisters Mary Warner and Karen Clark.

A celebration of life will be held at Lee's Summit Community of Christ on Sunday, June 8, 2025 starting with a visitation at 2:30 PM and a memorial service at 3:00 PM. Please wear bright colors to match the celebratory tone.
