Clarence “Oscy” Oscarson, 79, went to be with his Lord on April 22, 2025. Born April 1, 1946, in Highland, IL, to Clarence W. and Elizabeth Florence (Hampton) Oscarson, he passed away peacefully after a long and courageous battle with diabetes, A-fib, dementia, and Parkinson’s disease.
Oscy graduated from West High School in Waterloo, IA, in 1964 and furthered his education at Greenville College in Greenville, IL, and Central College in McPherson, KS. On March 18, 1982, he married the love of his life, Bonnie Lee (Knudsen) Oscarson, in Lincoln, NE, sharing forty-three wonderful years together.
A man of diverse talents and unwavering faith, Oscy’s career spanned many fields. He built grain silos, drove a school bus, owned a heating and cooling business, served for nine years as a Free Methodist pastor, and most notably, dedicated 34 years to educating contractors on the sales and installation of geothermal heat pumps, a profession that took him across 26 states and Canada. Even in retirement at age 70, his passion for the industry remained, his unfulfilled dream being to write an instruction manual for heat pump installation and maintenance.
Oscy’s deep faith was reflected in his life. He cherished leading music at church, meticulously planning worship experiences to complement the pastor’s messages, and his rich baritone voice filled many sanctuaries. The past two years, Parkinson’s sadly silenced his hymns, a loss he deeply felt. He also enjoyed playing his trombone for special church services. His commitment to service extended beyond the church walls; he served for 25 years on the board of Life Line Homes, Inc., a non-profit organization supporting children and youth ministries.
Oscy is survived by his beloved wife, Bonnie; his blended family, Geoffrey Scott (Annabelle) Oscarson, Timothy Allen (Lisa) Oscarson, Wesley “Jay” (Kara) Madsen, Wade Alan (Kari) Madsen, Dana Lee (Rick) Baumgarten, and Deborah Marie Madsen; twenty grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren; sister Barbara (David) Tomb and brother Douglas (Julie) Oscarson. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of Oscy’s life will be held on May 10, 2025, at the Wesley Covenant Chapel at Church of the Resurrection, 13720 Roe Avenue, Leawood, KS. A reception will follow the service. The family invites all who knew and loved Oscy to attend and share in remembering his life.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Life Line Homes, Inc., c/o Bonnie Oscarson, Treasurer, 7311 Hedges Avenue, Raytown, MO 64133.
