She grew up in Shelbina, Missouri and graduated high school there. Tina was married to her high school sweetheart, the love of her life, Paul Eugene Bower in 1945. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2005. Paul passed away suddenly two months later.
Paul and Tina were married in Shelbina while he was on leave after joining the U.S. Navy during WWII. He shipped out to China a week after they were married. When he returned, they moved to Columbia, Missouri so he could attend the University of Missouri. After Paul's graduation, they moved to Lacrosse, Wisconsin. Two years later, they relocated to Mission, Kansas where they resided for over 50 years.
Tina continued to live in the family home for many years before moving into Mission Square Independent Living. She was currently residing at Brookdale of Rosehill Assisted Living in Shawnee.
Tina was an active member of Village Presbyterian Church for many years. She loved volunteer work. Her special love was the church food pantry where she was a charter member. She served one year as a deacon. She attended Bible Studies for many years. Tina enjoyed volunteering in her daughter's classroom when Janet taught first grade. When she was younger, Tina was an avid golfer.
She and Paul loved to travel and did so extensively after he retired. She was an avid reader, enjoyed writing in journals and creatively and loved watching sports, especially the Kansas City Chiefs and Mizzou football and basketball.
She was a wonderful mother to her daughters, Janet and Julie, and many times said that spending time with her family was her greatest joy! She felt very blessed to have had loving parents, husband, daughters, son-in-law, close, longtime friends and a special godson.
She leaves behind her daughter, Janet Ann Butcher (John) of Shawnee, KS and daughter, Julie Elizabeth Seitter of Grand Junction, CO and a cousin, Maurine Shearer of Kansas City, MO. The family would also like to thank the staff at Brookdale Rosehill Assisted Living and Monarch Hospice for their love and wonderful care.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Village Presbyterian Food Pantry or Monarch Hospice.
A casual gathering of friends and family for Tina will be held Friday, December 20, 2024 from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131, followed by a funeral service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
