Clinton George "Bud" Lord passed away on Wednesday, December 6, 2017.
Bud was born on February 26, 1934, in Honolulu, Hawaii. When he was twelve years old, he moved with his mother, grandmother and brother, Howard, to Fremont Nebraska, where he made life-long friends. In school, he played basketball, baseball and football, and was a member of the first graduating class of St. Patrick's High School in 1951. On June 21, 2014, he was inducted into the St. Patrick's/Bergan High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
In September of 1951, Bud went to St. Benedicts/Benedictine College, where he majored in sociology and continued to play sports. He enjoyed all sports, with basketball being his favorite. He was a member of the basketball team that won the National Intercollegiate Basketball Championship (NAIA) in 1954. On October 29, 2011, he was inducted into the Benedictine Basketball Hall of Fame.
On April 6, 1967, after serving in the U.S. Army, and playing baseball with the Dodger Organization, he entered the securities industry. This year marked Bud's 50 year anniversary with Royal Alliance Associates, Inc. and its predecessor company, Integrated Resources Equity Corporation. He was the longest standing manager and advisor with Royal Alliance. Throughout his tenure with the firm he was in a leadership role serving as a Managing Executive and OSJ Manager for a large and diverse group of advisors throughout Kansas and surrounding states over the years (licensed in 27 states). In recent years, his focus and leadership was on a small tightly-knit group of advisors who shared a team approach and collaborative environment. He was always a model of professionalism, knowledge, and goodwill.
Bud had often times, said "I have had a wonderful life. It has been a wonderful journey." That journey began when he was seven years old, standing on his front porch watching the Japanese bombing the ships at Pearl Harbor and continued throughout his lifetime. He took advantage of every opportunity to do new things and meet new people. Traveling to explore other countries was an exciting adventure for him. He enjoyed vacationing in Hawaii and going to his home in Indian Wells, CA. Over the years, some of his many interests included playing golf at Milburn Country Club, getting together with friends at Saddle & Sirloin Club and The Carriage Club, watching the Masters Tournament on Father's Day and enjoying a great meal. Additionally, he was a devoted volunteer as a Kansas Long Term Care Ombudsman, working as an advocate for residents in long term care facilities, assisting them to be safe, guiding them in their care and health concerns, along with acting in their best interests and partnering with the staff to a resolution. Most of all, he loved to spend time with his family, including Jesse, his cat.
Bud is survived by his wife, Carol, daughter, Dianna (Jenny Jensen), sons: Steven (Julie), Bryan, and grandchildren, Gabrielle, Spencer, and Maisie.
He was an extraordinary man with a quick wit and wonderful sense of humor, who treated people with respect, compassion, sensitivity and fairness. He was a loyal friend and a mentor to many.
The family looks forward to greeting visitors on Wednesday, December 13th, 1:30 pm - 2:00 pm, prior to the 2:00 pm Mass of Christian Burial at Cure of Ars Catholic Church, 9401 Mission Road, Leawood, Kansas.
