

Dale Wayne Thompson, 84, of Independence, MO, passed away November 28, 2011 at home after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Dale was born June 13, 1927 in Lowry City, MO, son of Ray & Emma Thompson. He joined the Navy at age 17 and served during the latter part of World War II. He worked for Southern Union Gas Co. for 25 years. Dale and first wife, Nadine, had four children together. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Charles Thompson, daughter Janet Schmidli, brother Ray “Junior” Thompson, & stepson Bruce Cape. He is survived by wife Mary of the home; granddaughter April Johnson (that he helped to raise), Blue Springs, MO; son Micheal Thompson & wife Becky, West Des Moines, IA; daughter Linda Daily & husband Gene, Kansas City, MO; stepsons Bobby Johnson, Mark Johnson & wife Karen, all of Independence, MO, Brent Johnson & wife Mary of Grandview, MO, Randy Johnson & wife Lori of Lee’s Summit, MO; stepdaughter Robin Goldsmith & husband Kirk, Buckner, MO; brother George Thompson & wife Mary, Harrison, AR; sister Joan Goans & husband Danny, Lowry City, MO; grandsons Steve Schmidli, Scott & Zach Thompson, Jessie, Rusty, Jerry, Dennis & Daniel Daily, Kyle, Ryan, Tyler & Haden Johnson, & Jordan Goldsmith; granddaughters Tracy & Jennifer Schmidli, Brianna & Alyssa Goldsmith, Hillary Johnson & Jacquelyn Cape; 17 great-grandchildren with two more on-the-way; many nieces & nephews. Dale was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather & uncle. Everyone who met him, loved him. He will be missed by family & friends. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 2, at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Rd. Interment in Mt. Moriah Cemetery South.
