He was preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years, Leonore Herrick Lang, wife Twila Friesen, his parents, brothers Kenneth and Rex, grandson David Charles Lang and son-in-law Steven Maeder. He is survived by son David Richard (Linda Young), daughters Sandra (Glen) McNeil, Dr. Tracee (John) Lawrence and Robin Maeder; seven grandchildren and their spouses Ruth, Shannan, Don, Kym, Tobee, Tanner and Jake; 18 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; two stepchildren Eric Friesen and Jennie Collins; and dear friend Vera.
David was a member of “The Greatest Generation” and it showed. Working on his family’s farm taught him punctuality, dedication, perseverance, hard-work, and respect. Not only respect for himself and his fellow man, but for the land and its creatures as well. David LOVED. More than 60 of his 90 years were spent married and building a family. Through his occupation, David was able to do on a daily basis what he did best: leave others in a better position than he had found them. His job title was insurance agent, but what he did was bring his clients peace of mind. Not in some absurd TV commercial kind of way, but in the real tangible, “my word is my bond, seal it with a handshake” kind of way. People like David make this world a better place and when they go WE are the lesser for it. Yet time will too slowly turn suffering into strength; yet, we will once again stand at the ready, and when we finally do it is the David Langs who help show us the way. “Fear no more the heat o’ the sun, Nor the furious winter’s rages; Thou thy worldly task hast done, Home art gone. . .” We love and miss you, Dad.
