David Walter Rickey

David Walter Rickey was a man of words, wit, and unwavering spirit. A proud graduate of Shawnee Mission East (2000). David moved to Tempe, where the Arizona sun supported his courageous 30-year journey with the rare disease Myotonic Muscular Dystrophy, diagnosed at 16. He excelled at Arizona State University, earning a Master’s in Journalism in 2006.

David possessed a rare gift for storytelling and a deep-seated passion for sports. As the dedicated stats keeper for ASU Women’s Volleyball and a prolific sportswriter, he turned his observations into art.

He joins his parents, Fay and Stewart, and his grandparents in peace. David’s memory lives on through his many aunts, uncles, and cousins. His voice remains in every story he told.
