David C. Van Dyke, 70, of Leawood, KS passed away Sunday, July 17, 2016 at his home after a courageous battle with lung cancer. David was born October 8, 1945 in Coronado, CA to Vernon and Julia Van Dyke. He attended the University of Wisconsin- Madison where he graduated with a degree in Anthropology. Upon graduating, David entered the United States Air Force where he proudly defended his country as a Forward Air Controller in the Vietnam War. After completing his service, he completed a Master’s degree in Business and went on to work many years as a Director of Environmental and Safety Operations. David enjoyed sailing and hunting and was known for his incredible story-telling. He is survived by his mother, Julia Van Dyke, loving wife, Susan Van Dyke, children: Nathan Van Dyke (Teri), Corey Vickery and Kelly Vickery. David is also survived by his sister, Diane Golden(Daryl) and three grandchildren.
A visitation will be held at 11:00 am on Sunday, July 24, 2016 with a celebration of David’s life to immediately follow at 12:00 pm at McGilley State Line Chapel The family will be hosting a luncheon following the service.
