

Dean L. Lingenfelter, 83, of Overland Park, KS, would have interested parties know that on January 8, 2017, while at home, he drew his last breath and then was officially declared to be on his way to a place of eternal residence. A “Bon Voyage” service will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday, January 12, at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Rd. Visitation will be from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Burial in Mt. Moriah South Cemetery.
Dean was born in Mission, KS, but lived most of his childhood and early youth in Kansas City, MO, within sight of his favorite haunt, the Country Club Plaza. He graduated from Westport High School. After graduation Dean worked in the Survey Section of the Kansas City, MO Department of Public Works. In 1956, in Alton, IL, he married Elizabeth S. Green, a graduate of St. Luke’s School of Nursing in Kansas City, MO. He was then drafted by the U.S. Army and served two years with a field artillery unit in Germany. In 1962, he graduated from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. He then began a teaching career with the Shawnee Mission School District that lasted 31 years. During that time he obtained a Master’s Degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
Dean was a member of the National Education Association and an initiate of the National Professional Geographic Fraternity, Gamma Theta Upsilon. In retirement he busied himself tending a parcel of land near Hillsdale, KS that had been his grandfather’s place.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Lloyd T. Lingenfelter of Hillsdale, KS, and Frances E. Schmits of Kansas City, MO; brother Royal W. Lingenfelter of Prairie Village, KS; sister Evelyn R. Warfsman of Linn Creek, MO; and son Madison D. Lingenfelter. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth S. Lingenfelter of the home; daughter-in-law Alecia Lingenfelter (Madison’s widow) and their daughter Pagan of Rowlett, TX; son Garrett R. Lingenfelter and his wife Karen and their daughter Lillian of Spring Hill, KS; many, much loved nieces and nephews. Dean was a devoted husband, proud father, and a loving grandparent. He will be dearly missed by family and friends.
