

Dean P. Stone, 90, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away at his home on Tuesday, December 31, 2013. Memorial services will be held 2 pm Monday, January 6, 2014 at St. Michael’s and All Angels Episcopal Church, 6630 Nall Avenue, Mission, Kansas 66202. Private burial of his ashes will take place in the Church Memorial Garden. Dean was born on January 5, 1923, in Chicago, Illinois and moved as a young boy to a ranch near Greenough, Montana. He was the son of George and Mildred (Ingalls) Stone. Dean was a veteran of the United States Navy serving our country during World War II. He was a Sea-Bee and was stationed in Okinawa and China.
After the war he graduated from Cal Tech as a Civil Engineer and worked for Raymond International in Seattle, Washington. He met the love of his life, Harriet Maddock and they were married on September 1, 1951, in Seattle, Washington. He was transferred by the company and lived in the states of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, California, Utah and finally Kansas moving here in September of 1978. Dean retired from Raymond International in 1979. While in Utah he was ordained as a Deacon in 1976 and in 1977 as a priest in the Episcopal Church. He made St. Michael’s and All Angels his parish home and served the church for numerous years. He also served as an interim priest at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church from 1988-1989 in the Red Bridge Area of Kansas City. Fr. Stone volunteered in his community and donated his time and talents. He volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and Meals on Wheels. He was also a craftsman and enjoyed doing trim carpentry. Dean also enjoyed family campouts with his full extended family.
He was preceded in death by his brother, John Stone. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Harriet Stone; children: Ms. Susan Stone, La Mesa, CA, Prof. William Dean Stone, Socorro, New Mexico, the Hon. Andrew Stone and his wife Debbie of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Mrs. Jennifer Allen and her husband David of Overland Park, KS; grandchildren: Elisabeth, Peter, David, Kathleen, and Lucy Stone; and Matthew and Olivia Allen.
