Denise Timberlake was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri to Mr. and Mrs. Ralph and Lydia Mercer. She was very fortunate to have been raised in a “Dick & Jane” type of family. Daddy worked and Momma stayed home. Her extended family also created a strong family foundation of “love and a hard work ethic”!
In the 1980’s Denise taught elementary school children. In the 1990’s she became a federal agent for the U.S. Postal Service where she solved crimes relating to burglaries, robberies, vandalism, mail fraud, internal and external mail theft, terrorist and counter-terrorist attacks. She responded to and cleared IED’s (incendiary explosive devices) and investigated mail bomb cases. She also gained skills in the construction, renovation and design of postal facilities. Her skills afforded her the title of SME (special material’s expert) among her peers and superiors. With those skills, she conducted security and safety audits of postal facilities, public and private businesses, which included universities. Also she participated in speaking engagements on topics ranging from safety and security in the work place to mailroom security, until her retirement in 2014.
Denise Timberlake has been a member of Bannister Road Baptist Church since about 2000. Prior to that she was a member of Grace Baptist Church of Kansas City where, in 1993, she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. She faced many challenges as we all have had and will continue to have. But with Christ on her side she had no fear (that was sealed in 1997). None!! Amen!
Denise leaves to celebrate her life: her father, Ralph Mercer, Jr.; her sister, Chandra Mercer; her brothers, Ralph Mercer, III and Randall Mercer; her nephews, DeVell Williams, Ralph Mercer, IV, Calvin Garrett, Jr.; her nieces, Rani Joni Mercer and Imani Mercer; a host of other relatives and friends.
A Visitation for Denise will be held Saturday, September 3rd, 2022 at Bannister Road Baptist Church (7503 Bannister Rd, Kansas City, MO 64134) from 10:00am to 11:00am followed by a Celebration of Life Service at the same location. After the service there will be a graveside committal at Forest Hills Cemetery (6901 Troost Ave, Kansas City, MO 64131).
