Dolores "Dee" Airola

Dolores “Dee” (Lickteig, Mauer) Airola, 86, passed away at Wilshire at Lakewood on January 15th 2014. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10am Monday, January 20th at Christ the King Catholic Church, 8510 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO. Burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 8:30-10:00am at the Church. Memorial contributions can be made to Grace Hospice or Christ the King Catholic Church .

Dee was born February 12, 1927 in Oklahoma. She attended Blessed Sacrament Elementary in Kansas City and graduated from Redemptorist High School. She worked for IBM where she was in charge of Key Punch Operators. Dee married James (Jim) A. Mauer, Jr. in 1947 and they had 3 children, Mike, Joyce and Marilynn. Jim passed away in 1954. Dee always felt blessed to have also met and married Pete Airola (1960) and added a daughter, Lori, to the family. Dee was active with her “card group” and a member of Beta Sigma Phi. Managing a home and raising her family was always a priority for her. Dee was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Laura Lickteig, husbands, Jim and Pete, 4 brothers, Bill, Bob, Frank, Loren “Sam” and Granddaughter, Jessica Sterner. Survivors include her children, Mike Mauer, Joyce (Rod) Petersen, Marilynn (Joe) Sterner, Lori (Keith) Sommers. Grandchildren, Daniel Svejda, Nate Sterner, Nick (Catherine Bell) Sterner, Great Granddaughter Bryn Sterner and Step-granddaughter Zurri Hammack; sisters, Laverne Harlow, Lavonne O’Donnell and brother Don Lickteig. She will also be dearly missed by many cherished friends, cousins and those who knew her as “Aunt Dee” and “Mama Dee”.
